Why choose the LASER prostate surgery?

The vast majority of patients we see in the practice ask me this question: Why choose the laser prostate surgery? To answer that question always informs them of all surgical treatment options I can offer for the growth of the prostate.

In general we can distinguish two types of surgery: open surgery (cut) and endoscopic surgery (uncut). Both types of surgery has very similar results, the main objetive is to relieve the patient's symptoms. The big differences are the complications that can occur from surgery, surgery without being cut has minor complications.

Endoscopic surgery is performed with a device that is inserted through the penis, and what is done is to transform the electricity in other types of energy: pure electric power and energy laser. We and our colleagues can offer treatment with the pure electric power: transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) and / or resection plasma. But we also have energy laser treatments,
there are many types of laser, but those who have proven to be the best are the green laser and holmium laser.

In the latest issue of the journal Current Opinion in Urology, compare and evaluate information about the different types of laser used in urology, with the green laser and holmium laser has the best evidence about the benefits they have. Also in the December issue of the British Journal Of Urology International, are the long-term outcome of holmium laser compared with TURP
and concluded that their results are similar, but with fewer complications and re-operations for the laser.

We conclude that laser prostate surgery has many advantages over other technologies: less bleeding, shorter hospital stay, less use of probe, faster recovery, fewer complications and more.
